Chiang Mai, city in northern Thailand, the capital of Chiang Mai Province, located on the Ping River (Mae Nam Ping), about 130 km (80 mi) from the border with Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok. Chiang Mai is the second of Thailand's largest cities despite of taking up just a quarter of Bangkok's territory, but without heavy traffic and pollution, also known as chief economic center for the northern part of the country.

The population is about 160.000 residents and many of them are foreigners. The climate is tropical but humid less and cooler then elsewhere in Thailand. The average annual temperature is about 25 C and it can drop up to 14 C in December-January and to rise up to 36C in April-May. In the evening, night and morning the temperature cools down so far, that it can be quite pleasant and the air seems more clean and fresher. The rainy season lasts for four months: from June to September. You can enjoy the fantastic scenery of the highest mountains surrounding the city with theirs Mountain Rivers and waterfalls.

They say that the Chiang Mai is a lovely place of the King of Thailand. Lots of local attractions such as rock climbing, elephant riding, off road and ATV driving, rafting and many other extreme sort of tracking bring a lot of tourists from all over the world. The city's impression amplifies with the number of National parks and zoos.

Chiang Mai is a very quiet and peaceful city suitable for family life. Look at the newspaper and you will not find any crimes or accidents happened, but community's events are being discussed. The people have their own dialect, customs, festivals and distinctive food. They are really acknowledged throughout Thailand as being the friendliest and most polite people in the country, making visitors feel very welcome. In recent years, Chiang Mai has become an increasingly modern city. It stipulated by the location of 15 educational institutions and 7 of them are international. The education is recognizable from all over the world and many graduated specialists are claimed by some international projects.

One of them, Chiang Mai University is a leading University with Academic Excellence and International Standards was founded in 1964 and offers a range of programs: from training courses to doctoral studies- specially designed for international students. These programs fall into three categories: Training Courses, Undergraduate and Postgraduate and Academic Exchange, and Degree programs. The internationalization of higher education has become a high priority in determining the direction of University's academic curricula development. Chiang Mai University has agreements with foreign universities, institutes and international organizations in 28 countries. Activities covered include: academic collaboration, joint research, faculty staff and students exchange, curriculum development, joint seminars, and information exchange. CMU has four campuses together covering about 3,490 acres (1,415 hectares) of land. CMU operates a fleet of 32 electric powered buses, which run between the campuses. Tuition, registration and compulsory fee are varying from 3,125 USD for bachelor's degree programs to 7,795 USD per academic year for Ph.D. in Economics.

Old city located in the center taking up about 3 sq.km. Here is the Walking Street with many boutiques, massage saloons and vendors, some hotels, tour agencies, shops, temples and so on. All of the main roads radiate away from the old city to the North, East and West and the Superhighway circling them at the end making the traffic to be very convenient and easy accessible to any destination. The area between the old city and the superhighway consider as modern Chiang Mai. Southern border of the Chiang Mai extends along the highway # 1141. Contemporary condominiums are located in this part of the Chiang Mai having their mountain, river or city view. The area beyond the Superhighway is suitable for private houses and villas.
